Every family group chat has one moment it never talks about again. For one family, it happened during Mother’s Day brunch planning, when grandma chimed in with a small request.

During a recent visit she’d spotted, in her granddaughter’s bathroom, what she took to be a cute lemon-shaped guest soap. She wanted a few for herself. She asked the whole chat. “That is it. It is just so darling,” she confirmed, when someone sent a photo to check.

1. It was not soap.

The device in question is Lem, Nancy’s lemon-shaped air-pulse toy, and the family then had to navigate explaining that to a grandmother who had already mentally gift-wrapped three of them. The caption says things “quickly spiraled.” The comments say the rest.

2. The comments were, predictably, a mess.

I’LL SHOW YOU HOW IT WORKS?!?!?!
😅
@heyitsspence_
Nah if ANYONE in my family said “I’ll show you how it works at dinner” I would NOT be showing up for dinner 😂😭

Why is it out on the counter ?

3. In grandma’s defense: that’s the design working.

A device that a grandmother can hold up in good faith and call “darling” is a device you can leave in your bathroom, your gym bag, or apparently your guest soap dish without a security protocol. That’s the entire pitch of the Lem: 10 intensities of air-pulse stimulation wearing the disguise of a novelty citrus.

And for what it’s worth, the reviews suggest the family could have just… let grandma find out:

“Wowza!! Didn’t expect either of these toys to do much really but was I mistaken! Lemon and avocado work equally well for this incredibly pleased 68 yr old woman.”

“Got it for my wife as a bonus xmas gift. Keeps sending me lemon emojis while I’m at work on night shift and seems to be napping a lot more than usual…”
